Understanding Drug Tests

A drug test analyzes biological specimens like urine, hair, blood, breath, and saliva for drugs or metabolites. It serves multiple purposes such as identifying performance-enhancing drugs in sports, employee or parole drug screening, and more. BAC tests for alcohol content often use breathalyzers, while urinalysis is prevalent for workplace and sports testing. Various other methods exist with distinct accuracy, sensitivity, and detection features.

Does Passive Smoke Inhalation Affect Marijuana Results?

Passive inhalation from marijuana smoke isn’t typically problematic as lab thresholds surpass levels from passive exposure.

Any abnormalities in a urine test may point to potential false negatives or tampering, such as:

  • Low creatinine implying sample adulteration, possibly from excessive fluid intake or external dilution.
  • Creatinine levels, alongside specific gravity, help verify dilution attempts. Testing labs may color toilet water to curtail sample dilution.
  • Adding enzymes to stabilize the urine often alters pH, which is also examined.

How Long Do Drugs Persist in the Body?

Detection windows vary by factors like drug amount, usage frequency, drug type, metabolic rate, health, fluid intake, exercise, and genetic differences.
