Selecting the Right Drug Testing Panel

Understanding Drug Tests
Drug testing involves a technical analysis of specimens like urine, hair, blood, breath, or saliva to detect the presence of certain drugs or their metabolites. Common applications include sports for performance-enhancing drugs, employment screening, legal procedures, and law enforcement. While BAC (blood alcohol content) tests use breath analyzers, urinalysis is prevalent in professional settings.
Potential for False Marijuana Positives Due to Passive Smoke
"Passive" exposure to marijuana smoke isn't considered valid for test results, as lab thresholds are set above passive absorption levels.
Atypical urine screen results can imply false negatives or tampering. For instance:
- Low creatinine values can suggest dilution, either by drinking excessive water or adding water to the sample.
- Creatinine and specific gravity are checked to spot dilution. Labs may dye toilet water to prevent this.
- Attempts at stability adjustment, such as enzyme addition, can alter pH, possibly indicating tampering.
Drug Metabolism and Detection Timeframes
The detection period for drugs depends on factors such as:
- Dosage
- Frequency of use
- Type of drug
- The individual's metabolism and health status
- Fluid intake post-ingestion
- Exercise post-ingestion
- Genetic factors affecting drug metabolism
